problem making gnuemacs on IBM RS/6000

I have been able to build an gnu emacs executable for my IBM RS6000 --
unfortunately, it doesn't execute.  Specifically, when I try and execute
emacs, the screen clears and then I get that infamous message "Segmentation
fault. Core dumped".  This seems to be happening in the do_scrolling
procedure of the scroll.c file.  Has anyone seen this before? Any info
for solving this problem would be greatly appreciated (vi is driving me
BATTTYY!!!)
