Using Network Installation Service on AIX/RS6000

Does the network installation of AIX on an RS/6000 work in 3.1.5?
A number of us have been beating our heads against the wall with 
it and haven't been able to get it to work, following the instructions
supplied... any words of wisdom? does it work at ALL? should
we just give up?
