perl on AUX2.0?

I am trying to compile perl 3.0 pl41 on aux 2.0 and get the following error:

        cc -c -O  eval.c
"eval.c", line 2374: compiler error: switch table overflow

I get this error with and without optimization.  Any fix for this?
