I've been using a Maxtor LT-100 as my root partition for about a
year now. It's been working better than the Quantum 120 which
houses my /usr partition. Well They've both been up and running
without loosing any info, the Quantum just generates "Disk write
c0d0s2 retry #1 successful." every once in a while. Never was
able to figure out how to stop that.
On a slightly different note, how many people use SyQuest
cartridges with A/UX. I've been using mine for a while now and
have noticed a few problems. First, it doesn't like having "big"
programs compiled on it. Tried compiling "rn" on it once, and I
received a "PANIC: while freeing inode" crash. Happened on a few
other programs of that size as well.
It also seems to constantly have read problems like the
following...
Disk read c4d0s3 Error: Recovered error, code = 0x17
Logical block 34064, physical blocks 34160-34167
Disk read c4d0s3 Error: Recovered error, code = 0x17
Logical block 34224, physical blocks 34320-34327
Disk read c4d0s3 Error: Recovered error, code = 0x17
Logical block 34752, physical blocks 34848-34855
Disk read c4d0s3 Error: Recovered error, code = 0x17
Logical block 35248, physical blocks 35344-35351
After a while (a few months) of use, I loose directories and
files. Luckily I make backups, and I just re-format the
cartridge and re-make the file system. I did have one cartridge
go so bad, that it couldn't be formatted. Of course I used that
cart for more than a year though.
Anyone else have similar problems, or does everyone do the
normal thing and just use SyQuests for Mac apps and backups?
Sorry for the long winded posting 8-).
