Benchmarks for sparse vector addition & dot products?

Does anyone have/know of benchmarks (either codes or results) of sparse
dot products and sparse aX + Y operations? 

I want to be able to choose intelligently whether to use sparse or
dense storage for some algorithms I'm coding.

Please email any pointers, I will summarize if there is interest.
