Several local unix types (myself included) are looking for a
way to move our existing quick-36 tape drives from dedicated
pc (ISA) cards over to scsi.
Several people have mentioned Adaptec 3530 boards, which are
cheap ($40-$90) & available. Some also mention that these boards
violate scsi standards, and may or may not work. Some indicate that
it worked with some hard disks, but would lock up with others.
So.... We are looking for info/experiences on using the adaptec
3530 board with quik 36 drives , along with adaptec 1542
controllers. We are interested in both dos & i386 perspectives.
We are also trying to find a backup package for dos that supports
that scsi/quik36 drives.
Any information/ideas are welcome, and if desired, I will
post a summary to the net.
As this is a scsi issue, please followup to comp.periphs.scsi, or
email.
Thanks in advance!
