Questions about R4 server & superVGA on ISC 2.2

I am trying to decide what super VGA controller to go with running Interactive
386/ix version 2.2 -- my concerns are these:
1. I'd like to use a card that works well doing non-interlaced and
at a high refresh rate.
2. I want to run my X server in 1024x768 mode right now, so I need
one that ISC *currently* supports.
3. I'd like to be able to use the new superVGA technology that allows
1024x768 in 256 colors (as opposed to the usual 16 colors) either
now or in the near future. So I want to know if there are any
cards supported by ISC *now* that do 1024x768x256. If not, how
about 1024x768x256 cards that can run in 16 colors now (with the
expectation that ISC would likely implement the 256 colors soon)?
4. What is the status of the public domain R4 server that was recently
posted? How does it run on ISC 2.2? What superVGA configurations
does it support?
Thanks in advance for all replies. I feel this discussion is worthy of
posting as well as email, but do whichever you prefer.
