Regular pipe vs. Named Pipe

Named pipes are in every AT&T-derived System V release given that they were
part of 5.0.  They were also in 4.0 [ which was never generally released ]
and they were even in System III.  [ tho I lack a set of "genuine Bell"
manuals to back that up with ... ]
