processes: interactive or not

I am working on an automatic renicer program for a couple of our machines here
and I have run into the following problem - how to tell if a process is 
interactive or not?  I need a somewhat reliable means for determining this
so as to avoid renicing a process that requires I/O while at the same time
catching those that don't.  Is there a field/structure in the proc structure
that might be helpful for this? (using SunOS 4.1)  Please respond via e-mail.
