How do you access drive E: on second drive

Hi gang.
I just broke out Dos Merge for my 286 after several months
of needing the disk space for something else. I have no DOS
partition on drive 0, but a fairly big one on drive 1.
Problem is, I want to access the dos partition on drive 1 as
drive E: from dos merge. For some strange and unknown reason,
I get the infamous 'abort, retry, ignore' message when trying
to access drive E: (supposedly the dos partition of a partition
on one of the two hard disks). My active partitions are Unix
on both disks, haven't gotten the guts up to screw with that.
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember reading somewhere
that you have to have the DOS partition on disk 0, is this true?
I couldn't find any reference to that restriction in my Locus
Merge user manual.
Also, has anyone noticed the following discrepancy? The utilities
doscp and dosdir make reference to the device link /dev/dos/[A-Z]
whereas the dos merge manual refers to device links in the
directory /dev/dsk/dos. What gives?
Robert
P.S. Don't ever run divvy 1 -u on a live filesystem. Ever.
It'll just ruin your day, and the filesystem.
