Bus Timing Problems with DTK 10MHz motherboard?

My System V/AT machine is based on the PTM-TB1000 motherboard from
DTK (Datatech Enterprises). It is a 8/10 MHz, 1/0 Wait State,
80286 motherboard with DTK ROMS. See below for a complete description
of the hardware combination.
I have been singularly unsuccessful getting a tape drive to work with
that system. I have tried both a vanilla EV811B controller with both
a Wangtec and Kennedy drive, as well as a Bell Technology modified
EV811B/Wangtec combination, and both fail with similar symptoms,
regardless of which slot I plug the controller into, and regardless of
whether I run at 8MHz or 10Mhz.
The same two tape systems work fine on the Bell Tech/Tatung '286 systems
at work.
By the way, apart from the tape drive(s), everything works just fine. I
have never experienced the massive occurrence of panics other V/AT users
report, nor the frequent clobbering of my hard drives.
I am wondering if this is some kind of timing problem on my motherboard's
bus, and if anyone else has had similar trouble with that DTK board.
Any suggestions on how to fix the problem, short of swapping motherboards,
would also be welcome.
