vnews core dumps

I'm running System V/AT 2.3L on an AT clone and News B patchlevel 8.
While using vnews, if I try to access a badly garbled article, rather
than skipping it vnews dies with a Bus error - core dumped message
and that vitual terminal session is locked.  Does anyone know how to
fix this?  Thanks in advance!
