OK - here is the list of nominees for the reorganization of
comp.unix.xenix and comp.unix.microport. There are several orthogonal
choices represented in the first eight nominees, and I've tried to
provide a complete set. (I didn't want to get into a multipart vote;
this also allows you to see the "gestalt" of each choice.)
First, voting rules:
Followups to this article are redirected to news.groups. It's
time to get this discussion out of comp.unix. If your news software
doesn't obey the Followup-To: line, then edit the Newsgroups: line of
your followup. Followup with an article ONLY FOR REAL DISCUSSION,
including any "campaigning" for your favorite choice.
ALL VOTES MUST BE BY MAIL. I'm not that hard to reach; check
out the signature. Votes without other comments that you want me to
read should have a subject of
Subject: vote for choice N
where N is a number, 1 through 10.
Votes with comments should have a subject of
Subject: comment and vote for choice N
Replies that do not contain votes can just be replies to this article
or use whatever subject you want.
A few notes on what you're about to see:
1- "delete comp.unix.microport" means, as Paul Vixie put it: Wait
for volume to fall off, then delete it. Post messages to it
regularly telling of the existence of [the new groups]. I
[Paul Vixie] will do this.
2- Similarly, "delete comp.unix.xenix" means the same,
substituting me [John Owens] for Paul Vixie, unless he wants
to do it as a single posting cross-posted to both groups.
Also, please be aware of the differences between choices 1 (and 5) and
choices 4 (and 8). Choices 1 and 5 create a sys5 hierarchy with two
subgroups, while choices 4 and 8 create two groups under comp.unix (as
do choices 2 and 6).
