Multiple drive question with DOS

Got a question for anyone who's using V/AT and DOS on 2 drives:
I could try the permutations myself, but I'd like to benefit
from any experiences you've already been through.
Situation:
Running Sys V/AT Rel 2.3.
Have ST4096 (80MB) driving, sharing V/AT about 40 M and 40 M.
Need more space on V/AT side.
Am adding ST251 (40MB) to V/AT side.
Want:
80MB for the UNIX side, 40MB or so for DOS
Would it be better to:
1) Let unix have the whole 80MB disk and give DOS the 40?
or
2) Let unix be split across the two disks?
The latter might give better unix performance by splitting the
I/O across two drives, but is the *Rel 2.3 two-drive bug*
for real? Would going to 2.4 fix this?
If the 80 MB drive were dedicated to V/AT, and DOS occupied its
own drive, do the DOS-oriented commands such as *dosdir*
and *doscat* work across physical drives?
Please email any experiences or suggestions to johnk at opel.UUCP
Thanks,
John
