Thanks for all the pointers to top.  Kudos to the one correct answer.

top 2.1 is available, among other places at gatekeeper.dec.com but
I had 2.5, and really wanted to stick with 2.5.

top 2.5 *with* ultrix patches is available at wuarchive.wustl.edu
in packages/top-2.5.

And yes, it works on DECstations, just fine, thank you. :-)
