File pointer to a memory location?

The GNU C library (which I have not yet released) has `fmemopen':

/* Create a new stream that refers to a memory buffer.  */
extern FILE *fmemopen(char *s, size_t len, const char *modes);

I believe Chris Torek's stdio for 4.4 BSD has something similar.
