Hi everybody,

If anybody there has (or has thought about that possibility)
a midrange IBM that has to be connected to a network of SUN workstations,
please tell the oddities [or the marvellous things] of such a
combination. I would really appreciate that.

(I have some information to offer. Last week I was in a SUN presentation
[yes, the '386 machines] and they told me that the SUN East Division
had a "clone" [no idea of which specific computer] of an IBM
370 architecture acting as their mainframe. The connection
to that mainframe was straight forward with a channel-to-channel
connector at 3MB/s).

Also, could anybody point me where to find comparative studies between
IBM mid-range computers and other computers in the same
range (mainly DEC)?. (Not necessarily running either AIX/370 or Ultrix).
I do not know how to contact the
Argonne Lab. for the LINPACK bechmark [or anybody else].

IBM is telling me (but not sending me) something about
published studies on the performance of a
product, Ramp-C, that is supossed to simulate "the
general behaviour of the system" (I know that vague, What does
it measure?, and, how to get it?).

Please e-mail me to JF600 at ALBNY1VX.BITNET

If there is something worthy I will post a summary.

Thank you.......................Jose-Maria Carazo
