BSD new tty driver: ^W (werase)

The "vi" editor handles word erase differently from the tty driver.  It
uses its own definition of a "word" in which "/" as well as a number of
other characters besides whitespace are word separators.  I genarally
find it more useful and become anoyed when the tty driver erases too
much.
