Mach/Butterfly messages

    I'm trying to use Mach messages to emulate a distributed-memory
multiprocessor on a BBN Butterfly. I set up a bunch of processes and
start passing messages between them using the processes' data ports,
and find apparently spurious messages being received in addition to
those I send.  These spurious messages have a 'msg_id' field with
value 65, and there appears to be no pattern to their arrival. Does
anyone know what these messages might represent? Are they being sent
by the Mach kernel for some reason?
