Because I'm lazy and would rather just type in what I want to look for 
without messing with shift keys.  And in text files I don't like worrying
about whether or not my word is the start of a sentance, in which case
the first letter is capitalized.  I've actually gotten so used to having
it I get upset when forced to use an editor without this feature.

Does anyone know of a way to have the search operation always respect the
case?  Just this morning I edited lots of files where I wanted to change
the string 'vax' to 'simulate' but leave the string 'VAX' unchanged.  I
sure got tired of typing in ':set noic' everytime I found a file that
needed a change, and then having my regular searches fail due to ignorecase
being turned off.
