Compressed batching software for UUCP mail sent via uucico?

Does anyone know of software that will batch and compress mail
messages for uucico, similar to the Usenet compressed batches?
We're sending a lot of little mail files long distance with our
TrailBlazer, and the 10 second/file overhead time depresses the
throughput tremendously.
