How do you establish FTP.

Help!
Usenet rookie needs help with ftp. How can I get on the internet
network?

Currently using Motorola VME box running what we call R3V5 System V68
			Unix.

Also running tcp/ip lan for in house use and uucp for usenet.
Can I use SLIP to connect?
How is SLIP used in a dialup network?
Excuse me if these questions have been answered before.
