Looking for comments on BSD2.10?

This is a pretty simple question.  I'm looking at a unix box running
BSD2.10.

My understanding is that this version is basically the same as
BSD4.3.  Is this correct?  And how good of a system would this be
for a beginner to learn unix and c on?
