rdist tells me it's changed file sizes

I was using rdist to copy a set of files from one Sun server to another,
and I get this:

rdist:/foo/foobar: file size changed

So I compare the original files to the new versions and, lo and behold,
the new ones are smaller.

What's happening here?  Thanks for any help.
