What is `writev'?

I'm trying to implement BIND 4.8 on my 386/ix system. But I cannot make
the named daemon since I have not the `writev' subroutine. I found it
in the Tahoe distribution sources but since it is assembler I don't
know how to rewrite it.

Can someone help me, please.
