dbx woes

Of late, dbx has been serenading me with some odd error messages. They
always appear during the "Reading Symbolic Information" phase. Here is
a sample:
warning: old style symbol information found in "CopyTupleArray.c"
bogus type info
and another:
dbx: internal error: index("minor_code", ':') failed
These result in dbx dying or failing with "no process to run" messages.
The environment is a Sun 4/110 w/SunOS 4.0. The runfile is ~2.7MB and
contains about 55k symbols according to nm -a. The load includes X11R3
libraries, which is the only place I could find "minor_code." While
the size of the runfile and # of symbols are large, other versions of
the runfile which are larger and have even more debugging info work
fine.
Any clues?
