shars and security concerns.

I recently got shar 3.11 off the net and compiled it.  I was suprised to find
that it allows the same security holes as that of running the shar through
the shell.  I know that a security conscious unsharing tool comes with
netnews to unshar the maps, but I would rather use something like shar 3.11.
Can someone point me toward such an animal - an unsharing tool that does
the nice things shar 3.11 does, but doesn't allow the security holes?  Any help
in this matter would be appreciated.  Email is preferred for various reasons.
