Exegesis of EGREG

Forgive me if you have seen this before but we have been having problems
posting lately and I am uncertain if this made it last time.

In "UNIX Research System Programmer's Manual, Tenth Edition, Volume I" the
intro(2) manual page contains descriptions of errno values and the last errno
listed is:

	37  EGREG  It's all Greg's fault
	       Something went wrong.

Does anyone know who Greg is and the original of this errno?  Is it in
Research Versions VIII or IX?  What system calls return it under what
circumstances?
