Last week I asked for opinions on whether or not I should post
the Frequently Asked Questions document more than once a month, in
an attempt to forestall some of the frequent questions ("How do I get
the current directory into my prompt?") that still show up.
I would like to thank the 22 people who replied.
There was no clear consensus. In summary, the responses were
Monthly, leave it the way it is now: 9
Weekly or bi-weekly: 8
Post some sort of a reminder once a week: 5
Five people suggested posting a reminder once a week saying something
like "Remember to read the monthly Frequently Asked Questions posting - here's
a list of the questions."
Most of the 9 people who suggested leaving it the way it is commented
that the posting is large enough now (over 34K) that it could result
in an overall increase in bandwidth to post it more frequently, since
there are always going to be people who don't bother to read the
FAQ posting and post their prompt-related questions anyway.
I think I will leave things the way they are now - posting the article
once a month seems to be the best compromise between a useful service
and overkill. Thanks for your support.
