vpix inode overflow

Seeking information or assistance for problem using VPix under Interactive 
System V with DOS 3.3 on AST386 33 MHz.
When /dos partition is mounted, inode table for the /dos partition 
overflows:

/         (/dev/dsk/0s1    ):    51258 blocks    10812 i-nodes
                   total:    99450 blocks   12416 i-nodes
/usr      (/dev/dsk/0s3    ):    40900 blocks    13378 i-nodes
                   total:   149940 blocks   18736 i-nodes
/usr2     (/dev/dsk/0s4    ):    17240 blocks    18441 i-nodes
                   total:   149940 blocks   18736 i-nodes
/dos      (/dev/dsk/0p1    ):    25608 blocks    65535 i-nodes
                   total:    65246 blocks 4294967295 i-nodes

accessing DOS files results in inode table overflow messages appearing
on the system console.  DOS applications appear unaffected.
Have reinstalled /dos partition and VPix without effect.  /dos 
partition is sized at 32MB and coresides with unix on the same disk
drive.
/dos is mounted as:
	mount -f DOS /dev/dsk/0p1 /dos
