+I'm trying to identify the best choice for a fairly large database
+running under UNIX. Something on the order of a million records of
+200 bytes each (a document index for a law firm). Lots of concurrent
+reads, relatively few writes. They'll likely be using a front-end
+to SQL, so the database's user interface tools aren't that important.
+Can anyone make a recommendation as to which of the various systems
+on the market would perform the fastest? (Hardware hasn't been
+decided on yet, but it'll be running UNIX.)
+Thanks in advance. I'll post a summary if people are interested.
I'd like to read what you find. This is an excellent topic for small
companies, who more and more are finding themselves able to move to UNIX
systems. I'm doing some consulting for a small firm that is perhaps
on the verge of doing just that. :-)
