Printcap problems

I have a pair of Sun 3/80's running SunOS 4.0.3 and an AST/Cammintonn
Turbo Laser/PS-Plus 3 printer and I am having the following problem:
When I print files over 3 or so pages in length, the printer starts
dropping portions of the text. It will drop single characters to
entire lines. When I cat > /dev/ttya it works fine no matter how big
the file. I have tried numerous variations of princap file and printer
communications settings including number of bits in character, stop
bits, output delay characters vs. timing. I have also tried using
different emulation modes. Nothing seems to work (although postscript
is a little more reliable than other modes which may imply that shorter
lines work better since postscript programs are often quite long, but
have short lines, as opposed to long paragraphs before a carraige
return???)
Thanks in advance for your responses.
