console error logging

On 3b2/600 machines there is a /dev/osm driver which traps UNIX error
messages that go to the console. This driver is used to collect
all the error messages that go to the console in a file under /usr/adm.
This does not seem to exist on 386 machines.
Does anyone know how to install the /dev/osm driver on 386 machines, or
how to log console error messages?
I have found two files of interest on AT&T Unix System V Rel 3.2:
/etc/conf/pack.d/osm/Driver.o
/etc/conf/sdevice.d/osm
These files are probably used to rebuild the kernel.
Thanks,
