benchmarking disk i/o

there is an iostone benchmark i found via comp.arch; contacts are

*            Jeff Becker (becker at iris.ucdavis.edu)

i just did this timing for my disks. it is conceptually easy;
just time copies from src to dest MAKING SURE to flush the
buffer pool (assuming you want to measure file system speed).
