Batched 'smtp' for smail 3.1 (with UUCP)

Hi - I've got 'smail3.1' running fine now. However - I'd like to get
the 'Batched smtp' (with optional compression) going.
ie - I have one expensive dialup uucp link which has a lot of small
mail messages going up and down it. I want to spool these messages
into a temp area - and then once an hour (just befor calling them at
the 'Poll' time) - dress them up all together into one file, compress
the whole lot - and then send them. But - I'm unsure what to do. I
only have a three line 'smail' config file (to tell smail who the
smart host is).
What are other people doing - assuming that 'smail' is on both ends.
What 'standards' are people adopting as the name for the program at
the other end - eg 'rcbsmtp' (Remote Compressed Batched SMTP ???) ?
