printing a large postscript file on qms 2220 printer

We have a PD program which converts ascii files into a (fancier) 
postscript format.
When we print these converted postscript files on a QMS 2220 (postscript)
printer, the printer gets hung in the middle of printing, when a large
file (over 30 pages) is sent. The same file gets printed fine on another
postscript printer (AST Turbo-laser). The postscript error handler routine
does not give any errors so we have no clue.
There was a suggestion that it could be a problem with the program, not
handling printer's memory properly (printer has 4 MB).
The other printer (on which the printing works) has even less memory than QMS. 

Anyway, this a2ps program was obtained from Net and any
suggestions to fix the same or find proper solution to the above problem
would be really appreciated.
