volcopy and dd questions

I would be interested in some insight as to the strengths and
weaknesses of volcopy and dd. What will volcopy do for me
that I cannot accomplish with dd? Also, does volcopy make a
copy of the superblock? I believe dd does when if=some_filesystem.
