Well, we brought down our SparcStation last night, but during reboot
he ran into a deadly problem. When the network daemons started, keyserv(?)
starting polling an unknown name server for our domain "haus.com".
We don't have a name server for "haus.com", being a closed site with only
uucp connections to the outside world. The only place "haus.com" appears,
to my knowledge since I put it there, is in sendmail.cf.
As of this writing, he is still polling some unidentified name server for
the haus.com domain. If I knew who he was trying to talk to, I might be
able to set up something to reply. The program apparently will not let go of
the machine and allow the reboot to continue until he gets an answer. This
IMHO is just plain stupid. After a few tries, he should give up!!!!!
How can I get keyserv/NIS to stop asking for the damn name server? How can
I get around this problem and reboot the machine? Why is he asking for
name service in the first place? Did he read sendmail.cf?
Bewildered, and just plain mad,
