hayes 2400 smartmodem

I am needing some assistance in setting up a modem.  I am trying to
connect a Hayes 2400 smartmodem with an uugetty running on it.
The problem is I have no idea what the settings should be set to 
on the modem.  I have been able to get a getty run on the modem, but not
an uugetty.  This is on a 3b2/1000 running System VR3.2 and Hayes 2400 
Smartmodem model number 07-0056.  Please mail me any or hints you
might have or ideas.
