It seems to me that the tape driver should return an error if you
ask for 1K and the tape drive reads 10K. Unfortunately, there is
no obvious errno for this (ENOMEM? EINVAL? E2BIG? EFBIG? EMSGSIZE?
ENOBUFS?).
