Help: uucico aborts with alarm after sending 1 KByte

I've recently set up a uucp connection between an SCO Unix 3.2
Box and a Microvax running Ultrix 3.1.
After successfully chatting and agreeing their roles etc. the master
(SCO-Box) starts sending the file.
But after having send exactly 1 KB one of them won't continue. 
The master sends 10 alarms, gets then a timeout and aborts.
The LOGFILE on the Master (SCO Unix) says:

SUCCEEDED (call to dc10)
OK (startup tty2A)
REQUEST (localpc!path --> remotevax!path)
FAILED (conversation complete)

The slave MVAX says:

incoming call on /dev/tty06
OK (startup)
REQUESTED (S ...filenames...)
FAILED (conversation complete)

O'Reilly says, this usually means, the other side went down, the line
hung up or the program aborted. The first two reasons are obviously
not true, the third one is :-(.

I've also included some stuff from the uucico debug-output, (where the lines
of successfully establishing the connection are omitted), perhaps is there a
kind soul, who would like to have a look on it and "decode" it.
