So I found out, later. Cf. my snide remark about the Federal Ignorant
Programming Standard and FORTRAN. (I've not used Ada, but it has at least
*some* redeeming qualities compared to FORTRAN, at least for the kind of
programs I write.)
If I didn't know better, I'd call that a cheap ploy to make System V
undesireable for FIPS work....
