GNU ld and runtime library as cross loader/linker

I know this seems like an odd combination of newsgroups to post to, but it
really does make sense if you'll listen to my request. I have the following
running under Esix Rev D:
gcc -- generating 68000 assembler
gas -- generating object files from the above
assembly code of whatever format gas makes.
What I need is:
GNU binutils -- to link and manipulate the objects into loadable,
ROMable executables. S records or Intel HEX would
be great. Any other format would be fine if
instructions were also available on doing a
a conversion for the EPROM burner (I don't own
one yet, but should have it built in the next month
or three).
The problem is, I haven't a clue how to do the above. There's no configure
script for 'binutils' and the source isn't that easy to understand. My
question, then, is this. Has anyone done this already? Is there someone
out there who could possibly walk me through this, send me diffs, or otherwise
help me out? I eagerly await any and all replies? -- SMY
P.S. Does anybody know where I can find the 68K simulator that was reported
in gnu.announce last month? It hasn't showed up on uunet yet, and I
don't have ftp access.
