Protecting against downloads

  Whatever gave you the idea that people need to read the kernel? All my
files are are protected against user reading, and I haven't seen any
problems. If people want to read the kernel let them buy their own
systems! I've been running since May 1986, so I have some reasonable
experience on the topic.
