file size problems (2MB limit??)

I seem to be unable to create a file larger than 2MB on my new system.
It consists of:
ISC 2.0.2
Gateway 2000 386-20
8MB Ram
120MB Seagate Hard Drive
I have installed the following packages
Core System
Kernel Configuration
Streams
TCP/IP
X11R3
Is there some trick to achieving realistic file sizes? I am trying to get
some software packages installed, and the tar files are much larger than
2MB. Is it really possible that I cannot create larger files??? I have
looked at all the documentation that I got (not much), and can't find any
references to file system limitations. Any replies/info about how to
overcome this will be greatly appreciated.
