RFS on non-networked system

A while back, someone posted an article having to do with using RFS
to mount local filesystems, thus simulating soft links of directories.
That message has been expired ... Are you there, whoever wrote that 
message??

I'm attempting to do what I described above -- For example, I'd like
to be able to mount /usr2/users on /home.  RFSSTART fails, though,
saying 'no network attached' -- (this is true).  

Is it true that I can't use RFS "locally?"  (I guess it makes sense
that Remote File Sharing wouldn't work without a network :-)  ... but
it'd be nice if I could use it what I've described here...
