UUCP between SCO Unix and Ultrix 3.1D

I have a small (80386-SX) system running SCO UNIX System Vr3.2.0, which
successfully talks via UUCP to assorted systems, including an old Altos
box. It can not, however, successfully log in to a DEC RISC/MIPS 5810
Ultrix 3.1D system... the account is good - if I dial up manually and
type in the loginID and password it starts uucico and gives the Shere
message, but if I use a command like
/usr/lib/uucp/uucico -r1 -Sdecbox -x9
to watch the progress, it gets the login: prompt, gives the loginID,
gets the password: prompt, gives the correct password, and gets back
an invalid password error, returning to the login: prompt of course.
This has also happenned when the same SCO Unix system tried to dial
up to a DECStation 3100 running Ultrix.
Has anyone seen this combination of systems, this problem in general?
Any assistance appreciated - both of these Ultrix machines that I want
the SCO Unix machine to hook up to are MUCH better UUCP links than the
two I'm currently using...
Thanks!
