SLIP, TCP/IP advice needed

I could use some help! I am trying to set up a test SLIP config on my
ISC system. I have the newer (version issued for 2.2) TCP/IP package
which supports SLIP.
However, I discovered that the scripts under sysadm that set up the
SLIP config are broken - they don't save "minor" things like which tty
is to be used, baud rates, if a modem is to be used, etc etc. It
tries to link a file named /etc/conf/init.d/slip to the rc3.d and
other rc subdirs - but such a file doesn't exist. The created netd.cf
has no mention of the tty ports that are used, and neither does any
other file I can locate. The prototype netd.cf file seems to be the
one for a 3COM board, renamed.
Can anyone possibly send me a sample of the proper config files for a
typical SLIP only configuration, something I could at least start
with?
Unless you deem this to be of general interest, e-mail probably would
be the best way - if folks indicate interest, I will summarize.
PS - while I'm asking TCP/IP related questions, does anyone out there
have an opinion of which card is the most reliable/trouble free
running with ISC's TCP/IP package?
Thanks in advance for any help - I'm totally new at working with the
TCP/IP stuff.
