 There is barely a shell with MS-DOS to give access to. Command.com
always has been and still is pretty pathetic.   Oooops, this isn't
an  alt.flame.mickeysoft group, so I better stop now...  ;-]

 Do yourself a favor, go right on up to Unix. I resisted it for a while
myself (took an interesting sidetrack that went nowhere on the way to
Unix) but am right now extremely happy I went to Unix.  Switching my
BBS to Waffle took a couple of days to get used to (Waffle can be
pretty off the wall) but Unix is worth it. Since I came from QNX to
Unix I also got the advantage of getting a real NetHack (3.0i yet :-))
but that is another subject (but an addicting one).
