I did in the original, which seems to have been eaten in the renaming.
Intel System V/386, Compaq 386/20e.
I'm hoping there is a general solution to doing things like changing
screen modes and colors for System V/386.

It's not the term type. It boots part way in white-on-black, then when it
clears for the first time (to print "Booting the UNIX system") it comes up
in paper mode. There are no straps or switches documented in the manual
that I could find, and it runs white-on-black under (ech) DOS.
